Yas Island waterpark opening late 2012

Now entering the final phases of development, the name of Abu Dhabi’s new waterpark has been revealed: Yas Waterworld Aqua Park.

The eagerly anticipated attraction at Yas Island, adjacent to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, will feature an original theme paying tribute to the culture of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the country’s pearl diving heritage.

Guests will be able to enjoy the waterpark and its facilities from the fourth quarter of 2012, including 43 rides, slides and attractions that follow the adventures of the waterpark’s main character ‘Dana’ – a young Emirati girl in search of a legendary pearl that brought prosperity to the people of her village.

“Visitors to Yas Island can see how far the construction of this landmark project has progressed,” notes waterpark manager Mike Oswald. “Last week we celebrated the topping out of Jebel Dana – the towering centrepiece and home of the Great Mother Pearl. Soaring 45 metres above ground, Jebel Dana will be the newest tourism beacon drawing regional and international crowds heading to the island.”

Yas Waterworld will span more than 15 hectares and be marketed as a full day experience, offering restaurants, shops, interactive games and a Vekoma Aqua Coaster in addition to the many waterpark attractions. It is set to become an integral part of Yas Island’s entertainment offering, alongside the (Formula 1) Yas Marina Circuit and Yas Links Golf Course. The waterpark is being developed by Aldar Properties and will be operated by Farah Leisure Parks Management, which also runs Ferrari World.
