World’s tallest water ride

Pilgrims Plunge coming to Indiana

The world’s tallest water ride – 135ft high – will headline the list of new additions next season at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, Santa Claus, Indiana.

Pilgrims Plunge, a super-sized shoot-the-chutes from Intamin, will use an elevator system (pictured) to swiftly lift boats to the top. The boats will pause briefly and then rapidly descend a record 131ft at a 45-degree angle, creating a wall of water splashing 45ft high. Pilgrims Plunge’s maximum speed will be over 50 miles an hour. Five ten-passenger boats provide an hourly capacity of 960 guests.

“We’ve dreamed about adding a shoot-the-chute ride for years,” says Will Koch, president of Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari. “When we saw the opportunity to break the world’s record and to use an open-air elevator in the design, we couldn’t resist! This is a classic family ride with a modern twist.”

In addition, Holiday World will introduce the HoliWatch programme for 2009, a wristband-style radio frequency identification (RFID) service from SYMX Guest Technologies, offered free to park guests. The waterproof devices will serve as locators for families or groups who become separated during their visit.
