Work begins to revive Heide Park’s Colossos coaster

Dismantling of the rails has begun on the Colossos, Europe’s highest and fastest wooden rollercoaster. Managing director of Heide Park Resort, Sabrina de Carvalho, announced in January this year that the fan favourite Intamin coaster will return for the 2019 season with a €12m investment from parent company Merlin Entertainments.

Now, construction has begun, and the old Kerto wooden rails and ledgers have been completely removed. The project is a huge undertaking for the RCS company from Hamburg, a specialist in the construction and dismantling of roller coasters as well as for Fa. Cordes, a wood-engineering company from Rotenburg which was already involved in the construction in 2000.

“Now we can start,” said project manager Thorsten Berwald. “all trades have set up and we start the project dismantling.”
