Woodie revealed for Efteling

The Efteling has revealed plans for a duelling wooden coaster, set to open at the famous Dutch park in around a year’s time.

Joris en de Draak (George and the Dragon) will comprise two separate rollercoasters, Water and Fire. The trains will race for the fastest track times as riders follow in the footsteps of Saint George in attempt to slay the dragon.

Efteling has signed a letter of intent together with manufacturer Great Coasters International (GCI) and the new ride will open mid-2010. Set to be the only duelling wooden coaster in northwest Europe, Joris en de Draak will be built close to the Flying Dutchman, replacing the park’s existing wooden coaster, Pegasus.

GCI will supply the ride together will two pairs of trains, providing a theoretical hourly capacity of 1,750. Each track with total 700-metres in length, with a maximum height of 21.5-metres.
