Sandcastle Waterpark debuts new waterslide

Pittsburgh’s premier destinations for family fun, Kennywood, Sandcastle Waterpark, and Idlewild & SoakZone, celebrated the July Fourth holiday weekend with a brand-new ride, fireworks shows, and special events at all three parks.

Sandcastle Waterpark

Bombs Away, Sandcastle’s all-new, thrilling waterslide, officially dropped into action July 1. Season Passholders and other guests can test their courage all holiday weekend long by stepping inside an enclosed capsule before the floor suddenly disappears, sending riders twisting and turning through 300 feet of soaking, splashing fun.

“Bombs Away is the big thrill Sandcastle guests have been seeking,” said assistant general manager Ricky Spicuzza. “This slide is the explosive exclamation point to our park enhancement efforts that have created a better, brighter, and fresher than ever Sandcastle experience.”

Kennywood

Celebrate America returns to Kennywood with fireworks every night from July 1 to 4. Other holiday events throughout the extended weekend include the Wiener 100 Dachshund Race on Saturday, July 2, and specialty culinary items and street performers adding excitement to the midways throughout the long holiday weekend. Active duty and retired military and veterans get in free from July 1 to 4, with the ability to purchase up to four discounted tickets for family and friends at the park entrance.

Idlewild and SoakZone

Idlewild and SoakZone will host its first-ever Celebrate America event, with a fireworks spectacular lighting up the Laurel Highlands at 9:30 p.m. on July 3. Idlewild will join Kennywood in thanking veterans plus active duty and retired military by offering free admission to service members, and discounted tickets for up to four family & friends. Idlewild guests will also enjoy an antique car show, stilt walkers and bonus kids’ activities from July 1 to 4.
