Prater debuts Riesenradplatz

New entrance new open

Riesenradplatz has opened at the Prater in Vienna, giving the famous Viennese amusement park the grand entrance area it has long been crying out for. The project was designed and managed by local firm Explore 5D, which was also responsible for the two multimedia attractions that can be found inside one of the period-themed buildings.

Vienna Airlines is an exciting simulated flight over the city using Explore’s “Flyboard” motion base technology (developed in association with Bosch Rexroth), while Miraculum is a large 4D effects theatre with a custom-produced film celebrating the legacy of Prater magician and entrepreneur Basilio Calafati.

Riesenradpolatz, translates as “Giant Wheel Square.” For years the park’s Ferris Wheel has been a popular stop-off for coach tours around the Austrian capital, but thanks to Vienna Airlines, Miraculum and several new dining opportunities, they now have a little more to entertain them. A Wave Swinger has also been moved into the new area and looks quite at home with its retro theming.
