Nina Romero of Velocity Magnetics shows off the latest magnetic return pinch brake for rollercoasters. Two versions are available, one with 2,200 pounds and the other with 5,000 pounds of force.
There are no springs or other stored energy to keep the brake closed, only magnetics. The fail-safe design is available in 28, 50, and 60-inch models. There is two 50-inch unit redundancy between one nine-foot wooden coaster bent. All units have quick-change brake lining cartridges.
