Merlin Entertainments opens Madame Tussauds Delhi

Merlin Entertainments has officially opened its latest Madame Tussauds attraction in the Connaught Place area of Delhi, the city’s most frequently visited district. The new opening marks the 23rd edition of the world-famous attraction, and its first entry into India.

Located in at the historic Regal building, the attraction will feature fifty life-like figures of well-known individuals from India and around the world, spanning genres including sports, music, film, and history. The new attraction is part of a wider recreation and entertainment zone planned for the city, which is set to be bolstered by further amenities catering for tourists.

The occasion was celebrated by more than 300 VIPs at the unveiling of the new site including government and tourism officials, celebrities and media.

John Jakobsen, chief new openings officer at Merlin Entertainments, said: “Madame Tussauds Delhi marks an exciting milestone in our Midway roll out in Asia, representing our first foray into India and building on the announcement earlier this year of plans to open ‘Dungeon’ and ‘Little BIG City’ attractions in China in 2018. Recent growth trends in domestic tourism in India present a great opportunity for Merlin and we are delighted to have brought this much-loved brand to Delhi.”

Anshul Jain, general manager and director at Merlin Entertainments India, commented: “We have had an overwhelming response from the people of Delhi and the wider region in the build up to this opening. They will now have the opportunity to be immersed in this impressive attraction, where they will be encouraged to pose, interact and even perform with the figures in this wonderful setting. It will be the destination for many unforgettable memories for visitors in the coming months and beyond.”
