Magic Mountain balances thrills and family

X remixed while Thomas steams in

Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia, California, is to upgrade its X coaster for 2008, at the same time introducing a new area for the park’s smallest thrill-seekers.

Unlike traditional coasters, where trains stay parallel to the track, X sends riders screaming around its 3,600ft circuit aboard wing-shaped cars that rotate independently head over heels, forward and backward. The S&S Power (formerly Arrow) ride will benefit by a $10 million investment featuring redesigned, sleeker trains and innovative new state-of-the-art visual, audio and sensory effects. Closing soon in order for the transformation to take place, the ride will resurface in spring 2008 as X2.

Also opening in the spring will be Thomas Town (pictured). The new land will centre around a ride on a Thomas the Tank Engine replica by Metallbau Emmeln. In addition to other attractions, the area will also feature a Thomas & Friends store.

“X2 and Thomas Town are part of a very exciting season we have planned for 2008, as we continue making Six Flags synonymous with an entertainment experience that delivers thrills for the entire family,” says Jay Thomas, Six Flags Magic Mountain park president.
