LEGOLAND Korea Resort holds commemorative ceremony ahead of Children’s Day opening

LEGOLAND Korea Resort, the nation's first global theme park, hosted a commemorative ceremony to mark the completion of the world's 10th LEGOLAND, ahead of the official grand opening on Children's Day, 5 May

The event, held at LEGOLAND Korea Resort in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, was held to commemorate the completion of the world’s 10th LEGOLAND. Nick Varney, Chief Executive Officer of Merlin Entertainments, the operators of LEGOLAND Resorts, along with John Jakobsen, Chief Operating Officer for the company’s LEGOLAND Resorts Group, attended the event alongside Gangwon Province Governor Choi Moon-soon, Chuncheon Cirty Mayor Lee Jaesoo,  as well as regional government officials and local residents.

The event began with a welcome speech by Nick Varney and congratulatory remarks by the Gangwon Province governor and local government representatives, followed by the key hand-over ceremony and on-site park tour.

Nick Varney, chief executive officer, Merkin Entertainments said: “As we gear up towards the official grand opening of LEGOLAND Korea Resort, it brings me immense joy to host today’s Key Handover Ceremony and to meet in person everyone who has helped us in this endeavor as well as share our hopes and expectations for the future.”

During the key hand-over ceremony, Merlin Entertainments’ Group Development Director for LEGOLAND Parks, Ray Dubois, delivered a key made of LEGO bricks to LEGOLAND Korea Resort’s Young Pil Kim, symbolizing the official handover of LEGOLAND Park. LEGOLAND Kid Reporters were also present at the ceremony to celebrate the event.

The ceremony event was followed by an on-site tour for the attendees. Key representatives of Merlin Entertainments and LEGOLAND, and regional government officials took a tour of the 7 themed areas – Brick Street, Bricktopia, LEGO Castle, LEGO NINJAGO World, Pirates Shore, LEGO City, and MINILAND. Meanwhile local children and families from Chuncheon were able to experience a selection of rides and attractions at the Park, including the Dragon Coaster and Driving School.

LEGOLAND Korea Resort is the first LEGOLAND to be built on an island, being located on Jungdo with beautiful nature and scenery in Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province, which makes it one of the most beautiful LEGOLAND Resorts to date. The 28,000 square meter LEGOLAND Resort includes the Park with 40 rides and attractions, as well as a 154-room LEGOLAND Hotel, providing kids aged 2-12 and their families with authentic LEGO experiences stimulating the imagination and creativity.
