Kolmården SAFARI

After celebrating its best year ever in 2009, Scandinavia’s largest wildlife park is to open a first-of-a-kind attraction in time for the 2011 season. SAFARI will be an open gondola lift that brings people up close and personal with Kolmården’s many wild animals.

“Imagine being suspended in mid-air with wild animals from the four corners of the world hunting, grazing and looking back at you curiously,” describes Kolmården president Magnus Nilsson. “Heart beating and thrilling adventures are guaranteed for our guests next summer!”

The new attraction represents Kolmården’s largest investment to date at SEK120 million ($16.7m/€12.4m). Featuring a track length of over 2.5km and utilising 78 eight-seater vehicles, SAFARI will provide an hourly capacity for 1,200 passengers.

Each ride will last 26.5 minutes and be accompanies by a GPS-controlled MP3 audio guide system. Folding seats in the gondolas and no height difference between the floor of the gondola and the station platform will make access for disabled visitors possible.
