First theme park for Mongolia

Mongolia’s first theme park moved a step closer recently. A design concept by Forrec has just been approved and the project is now moving into the next phase of design development, with opening scheduled for 2008/9.

Located in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, the 36-hectare park will incorporate an indoor family entertainment centre and an outdoor play park linked by a vibrant, high-energy retail street. The project is a joint venture between Mongolia’s Bodi Group, a real estate development company, and Golomt Bank.

According to Mitch Petty, Forrec’s project manager, “Our creative concept for the park layered reflections of the country’s character onto a design that is unmistakably international in style, modern in character and sophisticated in its use of entertainment technologies. For example, the curving lines of the architecture and the layered colours of exterior walls are designed to evoke the vast, rolling grasslands and desert regions so unique to Mongolia.”
