What was once the Pithouse West Colliery site will, in 2020, become a £37m Gulliver’s Valley theme park. Included at the resort will be various rides and attractions aimed at families with younger children, an indoor water play area, climbing centre, glades attraction, and education and ecology centre with forest classrooms and outdoor learning adventures.
Children with life threatening illnesses will be able to take shelter in a the Gully’s Dream Village also planned for the site, and nature walks and trails also feature, allowing guests to explore the site’s numerous ponds.
The park was originally given planning permission in March 2017, and will be situated only an hour’s drive from Burton, creating 250 new jobs.
“Our Gulliver’s Valley development will give the area a huge economic boost as we look to use a local supply chain and bring tourism pounds into the local economy,” said Julie Dalton, managing director. “Add to that the number of local jobs it will create – up to 255 full time equivalent posts – and it will be a real positive for the Rother Valley community.”
