Theme Park, Amusement Park and Attractions Industry News

What’s at the top of your list of infrastructure requirements?

Dick Knoebel, Knoebel’s Amusement Resort, USA (pictured): We need more dredging of our creek and widening of the creek walls so we will be more prepared for those heavy rains, those flash floods. We need to practice preventative flood maintenance. Last year alone there were eight floods, one that required nine days to re-open. We’ve also been flooded in 1972, 1975, 1996, 2004 and 2006!

Vittorio Santelmo, Mirabilandia, Italy: This year our park is celebrating 20 years, but it is not yet complete! This winter we removed a Vekoma family coaster from the centre of the park, so we could do with some more things for the kids, especially as a lot of our more recent investments have been concentrated on older visitors. In my opinion we also need to increase the number of attractions at Mirabilandia Beach, our waterpark.

Bernd Beitz, Holiday Park, Germany: I think the biggest problem for us was really the old entry, which was not very attractive and simply not big enough for the number of visitors we get. For 2012 we have a totally new entrance that is really nice [see page 28]. Next year we will change a lot more infrastructure, walkways, toilets, green zones and so on. It’s not just about adding new attractions; we also want to take the general impression of the park to a higher level.
