Oakwood's new owners
Spanish group buys Welsh park
Published:  21 April, 2008

Welsh park Oakwood, Pembrokeshire, has been sold by owner Paddy McNamara to the Spanish group Aspro.

A spokesman for Oakwood told the local press that the existing management structure would remain in place, but would not confirm if McNamara would stay on as managing director.
A figure for the transaction has not be revealed, but the park is known to carry a certain amount of debt. A popular destination with ferry passengers from Ireland, as well as local holiday-makers, it has suffered a degree of negative publicity in recent years following a fatal ride accident in 2004. However, its newest ride, a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter coaster added in 2006, has been well received by guests.
Aspro operates 32 parks, waterparks and animal attractions across Europe and Oakwood will be its third UK property alongside the aquariums Deep Sea World near Edinburgh and Blue Planet near Chester.
