Legoland Discovery Centre
New outlet to open in Duisburg
Published:  19 March, 2008

Madrid-based design company TAA Industries has revealed that it has undertaken all theming and fitting out at the new Legoland Discovery Centre opening next month (May) in the German city of Duisburg.

Legoland Discovery Centre is the newest attraction concept from Merlin Entertainments and the result of marrying its short stay “midway” format with the Legoland brand. The first outlet opened last year in Berlin and three more are planned by next spring, including two outlets in the US.
The Duisburg attraction is located on the site of the old Atlantis children’s museum in Wehrhahnspeicher. As well providing theming throughout, TAA has also prepared a number of water effects for the dragon ride that anchors the 3,500 square metre facility.
TAA’s relationship with Merlin began last summer when it completed some theming on the Vikings River Splash ride at Legoland Windsor near London. Legoland Discovery Centre is its first major project in Germany, however. “We regard it as a very exciting challenge to prove our expertise in the German market,” says TAA president Udo Weisenburger.
Merlin has apparently invested €7 million in the new attraction and hopes to attract 300,000 guests a year.
