Last summer, Tussauds Studios ordered two Motion Floors including Motion Control System from Bosch Rexroth the Netherlands, to be delivered to Alton Towers in the UK.
These Motion Floors are now used to simulate the movements of the Great Glass Elevators the thrilling finale sequence to the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride, which opened earlier this year.
Beneath the floor of the elevator is an electricdriven 3-degrees of freedom Motion System from Rexroth Bosch that, together with a sophisticated visual display system, provides the public with the illusion tha they are moving through the factory. “We create a fully immersive illusion of flying in the elevator through the factory and out and up into the sky,” describes Paul Lanham of Tussauds Studios.
Two elevators are used in the ride, so that one can load while the other is in use. Each of the two Motion Floors can handle 36 persons during the 3-minute ‘journey’, resulting in a total capacity of about 1,000 persons per hour. Rexroth Bosch is now available to tackle other amusement industry where the illusion of flight is required.
