Outside Stuttgart, Germany, Tripsdrill has begun construction of Mammut (Mammoth), an all-German wooden rollercoaster. Designed by Ing-Büro Werner Stengel, Mammut will be built by Holzbau Cordes using wood from German forests glued on site to increase the life of the track structure.
Riders on the 98-foot tall, 2,822ft long coaster will reach speeds of 50 mph aboard Gerstlauer-supplied 24-passenger trains with polyurethane wheels. The unique trains will be built in the form of saws, and race through a sawmill past large circular saws, through ravines and tunnels. In the queuing area, visitors already gain their first impression of the world of the sawmill – with many exhibits and views into the track system. Magnetic braking is planned.
Mammut will be the anchor attraction for a new five-acre site at Tripsdrill. The entire new themed area, which should be finished in 2010, will cost an estimated e6 million.
