Motocoaster debuts at Dreamworld
Published:  23 October, 2007

Australian moto-racing legend Mick Doohan is the inspiration for the world’s first Intamin motorbike launch coaster, which opened late September at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast. Mick Doohan’s Motocoaster features replica life-size 500cc bikes that race at up to 72km per hour over a 605-metre circuit. A fast, fluid track with breathtaking changes in elevation, high speed bends and plenty of quick left-handers is built low to the ground to provide a great sensation of speed and movement.

Riders are held in by a unique restraint system that creates an incredible feeling of freedom and exhilaration. Each train is made up of 14 bikes and 2 aerodynamically profiled sidecars designed for the pint-sized thrill ride enthusiast or simply those looking for a more relaxed ride.

Dreamworld CEO Stephen Gregg says the new ride is designed to be a shared experience the whole family can enjoy: “We want to showcase Australian motorbike racing history and celebrate its victories, milestones and, most importantly, its legends.”

Mick Doohan is five-time 500cc world champion and the coaster that carries his name has been sponsored by Honda. It is located in River Town area of Dreamworld on the site of the old Vintage Cars ride.
