Tivoli hotel plans shelved
Norman Foster design too radical for Copenhagen Conservatives
Published: 21 August, 2007
The Danish institution Tivoli has abandoned plans to build a Norman Foster designed hotel after the project failed to win the support of the Copenhagen Conservative and Liberal parties within the City Hall.
The proposed property, a hit with many architects, was radically different from Tivoli’s classic style, but the park’s managing director Lars Liebst feels that was its very selling point.
"We think that it is a beautiful and visionary project,” he says. “We are therefore amazed to discover that the Liberal and Conservative politicians in Copenhagen now say no to a building that could be a fantastic landmark for the city and Tivoli.”
