Knott's opens Mack spinning coaster
Published:  27 June, 2007

Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Park, California, recently introduced a coaster that not only offers speed, but spin. The Sierra Sidewinder, by Mack Rides, consists of two four-car trains equipped with on-ride video cameras to record the action.

These cars take riders through a series of nose-dives, banks, dips and turns at a speed of up to 37 miles per hour and while doing so continually rotate on their own axis. There are two big drops, a horseshoe element and a signature helix very close to the ground.

The ride covers 1,411ft of track that includes a drop of 39ft. Designed in co-operation with Werner Stengel, it is only the second of its type in the world, the first original residing at the Mack-owned Europa-Park in Germany.
