Widalpenbahn
Wildwater fun at Vienna Prater
Published:  27 June, 2007

Named after the Widalpen hills around Vienna, the Widalpenbahn is a new River Splash ride at the city’s famous Prater park.

The ride opened late April and is operated by the Kern-Waldman partnership.

Supplied and themed by ABC Rides of Switzerland, it features a signature vertical rotating lift. As one boat is raised to the top, the empty platform that carried the previous boat is whisked back down.

Widalpenbahn uses 9-seater circular raft-style boats, although this is a faster-paced attraction than a typical rapids ride. Passengers dash around the spiral channels, in and out of curves and through various tunnels and waterfalls, spinning as they go.

This, the fourth River Splash from ABC, is the manufacturer’s largest yet at 30 metres in height (before theming). However, there was very little space to accommadate the ride on the ground and as such it travels partly over an existing Auto Skooter track and a fast food outlet.
