Maurer Söhne it to install its 20th spinning coaster at Linnanmäki in Finland this winter, ready for a 2008 debut. The new ride will be built on a hilly site directly above and interact with one of the park’s water rides.
The Helsinki city park, which this season is debuting one of the first Ball Coasters from Intamin, chose Maurer after testing one of the Munich-based manufacturer’s existing SC 3000 coasters. "It convinced us in terms of quality, comfort and seating," says Linnanmäki director Risto Räikkönen.
Right after climbing a 56ft lift hill, the spinning coaster will run very near the water ride as passengers experience the first S-curve. After some intensive spinning, riders will enjoy a spectacular Immelman turn and a flip. The vehicle travels along a meandering track, around a few columns, curves left with a moment of weightlessness, then plunges down to the valley and through a slalom course.
The curvy 1380ft-long layout is clearly aimed at creating a great deal of spinning effects. The coaster features a compact construction and can manage a capacity of 600 persons per hour with its six four-seater gondolas.
Maurer’s coaster technicians are expected to confront extreme conditions when they install the ride during the harsh Finnish winter, requiring high-precision work.
