Pleasure Beach adds Infusion
Published:  27 June, 2007

Blackpool’s first major new rollercoaster for 13 years was officially unveiled at Pleasure Beach on June 6. Television presenter Vernon Kay, accompanied by a cast of violinists, showgirls and a mermaid, performed the ceremony as the chain lift of Infusion whirred into action.

The Suspended Looping Coaster, by Vekoma, is built entirely over water and replaces the park’s old log flume. It fits the space very well, sandwiched between the existing Big Dipper and Big One rollercoasters.

Pleasure Beach are marketing Infusion as a brand new attraction. In fact it opened until the end of last season at Pleasureland in Southport as TraumaTizer and was moved to Blackpool after the former park closed down, ready for soft opening in May.

Now completely overhauled, with a new station, queuing area and colour scheme to match, it does to all intents and purposes look like a new attraction and gleamed in the sun that accompanied the opening ceremony. Various sprays and water features around the ride add a new twist and are a nod the flume it replaced. Paul Fitzpatrick was the project engineer.

Helping launch Infusion alongside his sister and Pleasure Beach managing director Amanda Thompson, the park’s deputy general managing director Nick Thompson even fused fun with a bit of politics. Commenting on his family’s faith in the leisure sector he remarked: “If only the government and others would show the same enthusiasm.”
