Spreading the Pleasure
Published:  27 June, 2007

Infusion, the Suspended Looping Coaster now given a new lease of life in Blackpool, is not the only ex-Pleasureland ride to find a new home. Following its closure last autumn, several other parks across Great Britain have introduced some of Pleasureland’s old attractions as part of their line-up for 2007.

At Lightwater Valley in North Yorkshire, two ex-Pleasureland attractions are appearing as part of a five-ride package new for 2007. The Hornet’s Nest, a Chance Chaos (pictured) and Flying Camels, a jet ride, feature alongside the Dodgems, Noah’s Ark and Dragon Boats.

Southport’s old S&S tower ride is now appearing at Loudoun Castle in Scotland, where it has been renamed the Barnstormer and added to the park’s Old McDougal’s Farm area. The 40-metre tower, which is the only ride of its kind in the UK to feature both a shot and drop function, has since been fitted with a base frame courtesy of Ingenieurbuero Stengel and is housed inside a themed barn.

Another Scottish venue, M&D’s theme park near Glasgow, will in due course add Pleasureland’s former Huss Pirate Ship to its selection of attractions. Down on the South Coast, Fort Fun in Eastbourne acquired Southport’s Pinfari ZL40 coaster, but has since part-exchanged it for a newer ride.

Further along the coast, the ex-Dreamland site in Margate is expected to host an intriguing sounding “heritage theme park” in 2009 using several of Southport’s old attractions. The project has been devised by the Save Dreamland Campaign (see link below).
