Ripley’s opens in Williamsburg
Published:  01 October, 2006

A Ripley’s Believe It or Not! and Ripley’s 4D Theater have opened their doors in Williamsburg, Virginia. The new museum is the second Ripley’s Believe It or Not! franchise to open in 2006, following a new venue in Panama City Beach, Florida, which debuted in June.

“We have been interested in the Williamsburg area for a long time and we know our unusual and one-of-a-kind oddities will be enjoyable for both locals and visitors,” notes Bob Masterson, president and CEO of Ripley Entertainment. Visitors can wander the 11 galleries and experience among the artefacts a life-size silverback gorilla made entirely out of nails, an albino and maneless lion from Africa, a dress made entirely of guitar picks, and a US flag that was flown to the moon aboard the Apollo 16 mission in 1972.

Adjacent to the odditorium is Ripley’s 4D Theater, a high-tech dynamic cinema that features several ride film experiences. Guests wear 3D glasses, and also experience a fourth dimension including wind, water and other effects.

A total of 29 Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museums are now operating in 10 countries. Several more are on tap for 2007.
