Russian ride supplier Pax Design is to equip a complete park in Egypt. Located in coastal resort of Hurghada, the new medium sized facility will open 2008 or 2009 and is being developed by Russian owners. ”Lots of cities want a park,” notes Anna Novikova of Pax’s international department.
Following the success of two events in Europe, the World Waterpark Association (WWA) is to further reach out to its international membership by staging a symposium next year in Dubai. The exact timing has yet to be agreed upon, but WWA president Rick Root concedes dates immediately before or after the DEAL trade show may attract a better attendance.
Bombay Amusement Rides (BARPL) has been contracted to supply a 70-metre Ferris Wheel to the Khaled A Al-Rajhi group in Saudi Arabia. The Indian manufacturer, which has its own production facilities in Mumbai, is in talks with established manufacturers from Europe about a possible design.
New Jersey park Playland's Castaway Cove, Ocean City, was due to take delivery recently of a static model Streetfighter from Technical Park. The 16-seater ride is the Italian manufacturer’s version of a suspended-seat Frisbee.
Italian manufacturer IE Park has recently supplied a variety of Soli bumper cars in various shapes and sizes to a variety of parks. Fleets are now in service at shopping centres in Colombia and Poland and a kiddie park in France. Meanwhile 15 ‘Charly’ cars will appear at Lotte World in South Korea when the park reopens recently following its extensive ‘re-tuning.’
Zierer recently supplied a number of family tower rides to Compagnie des Alpes for use at its leisure parks in France and Germany.
Joe Martinez has been named as general manager of Elitch Gardens, the oldest existing theme park west of the Mississippi. Martinez was previously the park’s assistant general manager/vice-president of operations and has more than 30 years’ industry experience.
BRC Imagination Arts has hired Carlos Ortega to its project development team. Ortega brings to BRC’s museum and collections-based projects an art history background, multilingual skills and extensive experience in international museum work. "His perspective will be invaluable for our project development efforts around the world including current clients in Europe and Asia," says Bob Rogers, BRC’s CEO and founder. Prior to joining BRC, Ortega served as the collections manager and registrar for the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, California.
Italian ride manufacturer Technical Park is to supply two rides this season to Djurs Sommerland in Denmark. A Super Red Baron plane ride and a Helitoys Samba Tower were due to open May 27 at the Nimtofte-based park.
A Bollywood theme park is to open in Mumbai next year according to arabianbusiness.com, taking guests behind the scenes of the world’s most prolific film industry. The project will be shaped along the lines of Hollywood studio parks and is to be developed by Percept Holdings.
Preston & Barbieri is currently working on a number of projects in the Middle East. Immediately after the DEAL trade show in Dubai, the manufacturer was due to install a monorail inside a space-themed FEC for Future Kid Entertainment.Meanwhile the Seef Mall/FEC in Bahrain was due to take delivery of two other rides from the supplier.
The first Vertical Swing in Europe will open at Power Park in Finland. By Zamperla, the attraction is a combination of tower ride and wave swinger. The first unit is already travelling in the United States. Power Park has also ordered a Ghost House interactive dark ride by Gosetto, this latter deal brokered by the Fabbri Group.
After announcing plans last autumn to produce a flume ride, the Fabbri Group is now going to tackle the shoot the chute as well, making it a little more compact and affordable for small to medium-sized parks. The flume, meanwhile, is available is three standard sizes: 45x25, 44x16 or 35x16 metres, including a version with a backwards drop. Fabbri’s water ride portfolio now also includes the River Rapids spinning raft and Hydro Mania interactive ride.
England’s Drayton Manor has bought a 1,200-seater big top, which it is to use for shows, concerts and live performances.
Zamperla will supply four mouse-themed Twister Coasters this season. Perks’ Leisureland in Galway, Ireland, will received one such ride, in addition to travelling showmen in the UK and USA (2). The rides were due to be delivered by June/late May. Meanwhile the Italian manufacturer’s first Hydro Lift water ride will due to go into service this month at Marina d’Or in Spain.
The $1 billion Marvel theme park planned for Dubailand (Park World, May 2007) will feature a number of attractions based around Nickelodeon's cartoon characters. The park is being developed by Marvel Entertainment Inc alongside the Al Ahli Group.
Europa-Park’s fourth hotel has been named Santa Isabel by readers of the popular German newspaper Bild. The Portuguese-themed 4-star hotel property will open at the park near Freiburg on July 1.
