5D - the next generation
Published:  23 May, 2007

Explore 5D of Austria and KumbaK Coasters from the Netherlands have revealed that a second new generation motion simulator will open in 2008, with a third planned for 2009.

Using an ultra-smooth all electric motion system from Bosch-Rexroth, Flyboard 5D treats passengers to a thrilling experience of simulated flight. Guests, who remain standing during the experience, feel as though they are flying throughout while being subjected to roll angles of plus and minus 15 degrees, and pitch angles of up to 36 degrees. The first system debuted last summer at the Blue Dome, a visitor centre in Salzburg, Austria.

The two new projects, the first of which will open May 2008, have been developed for the amusement sector and have a larger platform to provide capacity of more than 600 people an hour. Even higher capacities can be achieved by combining multiple units.

The new system also includes 4D effects both on and off the platform. Explore 5D’s innovative approach towards the film content combines live footage with animation and has enabled high-end custom designed films to be produced at affordable prices.
