The Gulliver’s family theme park group from England has opened a new park in Milton Keynes. Eco-Park is a second gate to the city’s existing Gulliver’s park, but a totally new concept.
The facility opened May 5 and offers a mix of education and fun in a theme park setting. “It’s all about harnessing our industry skills to teach some good to a public that is frustrated by museums and other traditional educational attractions,” notes Gulliver’s design and development director, Duncan Phillips. “It’s also been a great learning curve and wake-up call for us as park operators.”
Power consumption is kept to a bare minimum on most of the attractions, many of which were created in-house, including three solar-powered boat rides. Sustainable materials have also been used wherever possible.
The park is split into three areas: Evolution, featuring various dinosaur exhibits; Land, where guests can learn how things grow; and Water, featuring a lake and boat cruises. A fourth area, Energy, will open in 2008/9. Entrance has been pegged for the inaugural season at remarkably low Ł7.25 (€10.65/$14).
