Hard Rock Park details emerge
Published:  01 May, 2007

Rollercoasters from Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), Chance Morgan, Premier Rides and Vekoma, play areas by SCS Interactive, and a dark ride by Sally Corp are among the attractions guests will discover at the new Hard Rock Park, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, when it opens in 2008.

Celebrating the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll, the $400 million, 140-acre park will include six zones surrounding a small lake themed to a variety of musical tastes. Until now, however, developers were being tight-lipped about the exact contents.

Music will set the theme in coasters including Maximum RPM! by Premier Rides, a convertible car-coaster that races in tune to hits from the ‘80s and Midnight Rider, a Southern Rock rollercoaster from Chance Morgan that careens through an abandoned mill.

Led Zeppelin - The Ride, by B&M, will be a six-loop. 3,738ft long sit-down rollercoaster featuring a high fidelity on-board audio system playing Led Zeppelin’s hit single Whole Lotta Love. Hard Rock Park has worked closely with band members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones on all aspects of Led Zeppelin - The Ride, including the coaster’s name, logo and the overall look and feel of the vehicles.

Vekoma Rides Manufacturing, meanwhile, is to supply a Mine Train and a Family Coaster.

Children’s play areas will abound at Hard Rock Park, including Reggae River Falls, a Jamaican-themed water play area, and Garage Jam!, a foam ball play-station, both by SCS Interactive.

Roadies Stunt Show, meanwhile, will be a high-action comedy staring heavy metal riggers performing acrobatics and pyrotechnics. A specially designed amphitheatre will also accommodate touring acts, concerts and special events.

Restaurants will include Carnaby Street Café, a ‘60s joint featuring traditional British fare. Guests can also explore creative retail stores ...selling Hard Rock memorabilia of course. All of the park’s offerings are to be blanketed in an ultra-modern sound system.

“We’ve been dreaming up Hard Rock Park for the last few years and we can’t wait to start showing people what they can expect to experience.” says Steven Goodwin, the park’s CEO.

Hard Rock Park is the single largest tourism investment in South Carolina’s history. Other confirmed suppliers include Huss Park Attractions.
