Are you sitting comfortably? Then you’re missing the point of this attraction! The Blue Jet, which opened this summer at the Blue Dome “nature experience theme park” in Austria, is a thrilling flight simulation from Bosch Rexroth that has left audiences – who stand for the duration of the ride – begging for more.
At take off, the Blue Jet platform is pitched forward horizontally by 20 degrees, leaving passengers pressed comfortably against the ergonomically-designed supports. As they view a thrilling flight film in front of them, backed up an action-packed soundtrack, riders experience a feeling of flight like never before.
“To have guests standing during flight has long been a dream for our creative partner in this project, Explore 5D,” confirms Paulette Teulings of Bosch Rexroth. “It was a challenge, but we made it happen!”
Bosch Rexroth, a Dutch-based hydraulic specialist, has engineered the new attraction using a new ‘Flyboard 5D’ support system that sets it apart from other soaring experiences.
“What does the Flyboard 5D technology add to the experience?” asks Teulings. “It’s psychology! By lying on the board, they are an active part of the motion and are therefore actively involved in the story. They are not passive – sitting – any more.”
To further enhance the feeling of flight, Bosch Rexroth has modified a 3- DOF motion system, originally designed for professional flight simulators, with three ultrasmooth electric drives. This enables extra smooth programming that, together with the Flyboard 5D platform, provides a most convincing experience.
This thrilling attraction is suitable for all passengers from 12 years and up. As a standalone ride, it holds up to 16 riders at a time, or multiple units can be grouped together inside a large-screen cinema for greater capacity. The ride is supplied by Rexroth Bosch as a complete motion/support system, together with software (film, sound and effects) by Explore 5D.
