Rocky Point turns out the lights
Published:  01 October, 2006

The 2006 Halloween season will be the last for the Rocky Point Haunted House in Salt Lake City, Utah. Owner Cydney Neil has decided to close the attraction, profiled in Park World in October of 2004, saying "I created my event as a youth training facility. I wasn't training the kids to work in a haunted house, I was training them for life. Now I need to let them go live it."

The 26th and final season will feature a “Pirates of the Scaribbean” attraction in addition to its mainstay sections, which include a Haunted Mansion, the Psycho Circus in 3D, the Slasher Wax Museum as well as four other frightening attractions. The final season ends on Halloween night, October 31, but Rocky Point will reopen in May next year for “Scream Break,” a two-week run of the haunted house, concluding with a big funeral and a public auction of sets and props. Neil has run the haunted house for 20 years. She continues to dedicate 14 hours a day, seven days a week to its production. As a result of her efforts, Rocky Point has become one of the most recognised haunted attractions in the US, with about 55,000 people visiting each year.
