Lotteworld near Seoul, South Korea, recently announced it was due to be closed for around four months beginning January as the park undertakes major repair and renovation work following a warning about safety. Last March a man was killed in on one of its rollercoasters. Several other accidents have also occurred at the park. “We promise that we will make Lotteworld much safer and more exciting,” says a statement on the park’s official website.

After successful negotiations, the Vitala Group has agreed to finance a resort project in Mindanao, the Philippines, comprising a 150 room 4-star hotel, 22 tourist cottages, an open-air leisure/play park, min I children’s play centre, sports complex and swimming pools. The available land, which faces the Philippines Sea and the Indian Ocean, is 380 acres. Estimated project costs are PhP 48.3 million (US$28.3m) and the project is predicted to get under way in July 2007 for completion at the end of 2008. Meanwhile, the Vitala Group continues to expand its project finance and leisure development activities in North Africa, with the appointment of Mr Mabruk Dabbaa, based in Tripoli, as its representative in Libya.

Adults and children will find a healthier approach to eating at Universal's US theme parks from now on. Healthy side dishes and trans-fat-free foods will be widely available throughout all the facilities. Healthy side choices for both adults and children will be available at most food units. Healthy beverage choices will also be available at many locations throughout the parks. Universal will also work to make nutritional information available to guests, and is targeting the end of 2007 to be entirely trans-fat free for all its food offerings.

Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, Michigan, recently unveiled a Chance Morgan double decker carousel. Located in the mall’s food court, the attraction opened just in time to entertain shoppers during the holiday season. The 36-foot carrousel can hold up to 40 riders and features classic horses, several wildlife figuress and a spinning tea cup. The Lakeside Mall carousel is owned and operated by HQ Entertainment, Culver City, California.

Tornado, a massive water thrill ride from ProSlide Technologies, will be introduced at The Great Escape Splashwater Kingdom this spring. The bright checkerboard designed water funnel will reach 60ft tall. Guests will board four-person cloverleaf shaped rafts beginning their ride down a 132ft long tunnel, before more than 5,000 gallons of water will send them whirling and spinning from side to side into the funnel. Eventually they splash through a waterfall and into a catch pool below.
