Ghost Town comes back to life
Published:  01 October, 2006

Ghost Town, located atop the 4,000ft Ghost Town Peak in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, will reopen in 2007 under new ownership after being closed since 2002. It will feature many of the classic amusements and live-action shows that made the 99-acre theme park such a success for 40 years.

More than US$4 million will be spent to refurbish the park, including a new chairlift and a restored incline railway, expanded and improved facilities for group outings, special performances, additional historical and heritage exhibits, and a wider variety of restaurants and concessions.

After purchasing Ghost Town from former owner RB Coburn, the new owners will operate as Ghost Town Partners LLC. Officers include Allen and Carol Harper, owners of the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad and Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad; Hank Woodburn of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, founder and president of Adventure Landing, which owns and operates nine family entertainment centres as farr apart as New York and Texas; and venture capitalist Peter Hairston of Miami.

The Harpers have extensive experience in amusements, scenic railroads and real estate development. Woodburn has over 30 years of experience developing, owning and operating family amusement properties.
