Kentucky Keane backs Elton Derby
Published:  01 January, 2007
L-R: Shaun Keane, Stuart Keane and Mike Foster

Colourful character Stuart Keane is back at Elton Games, the company he founded over 30 years ago as Kentucky Derby, as a non executive chairman.

The Keane family has acquired a controlling influence in the long established amusement games manufacturer, which now trades as Elton Games International Ltd from its base in North West England.

Shaun and Peter Keane, Stuart’s sons, have also joined the company as managing director and operations director respectively, while Mike Foster remains a shareholder and director.

Over 300 Derby racing games have been sold over the years to operators in 57 countries, supplied in a variety of themes. A considerable number of those games are still in use today thanks to their play appeal, quality and reliability.

“It is with great pride and excitement that I welcome the Keane boys to the Elton Stable,” says Foster. “They are the third generation purveyors of amusement and fun and will bring with them that special Keane innovation in both operation and development of new games.”

Elton’s newest and surely most outrageous Derby yet was unveiled recently to customers at the IAAPA Attractions Expo in Atlanta.

Titled tentatively the Flushing Meadows Derby, the game features a cast of Hillbilly characters desperately in need of the nearest convenience. As players roll the ball, their respective figures move closer to the water closet and some much needed relief! As the game is played, players are treated to a succession of comedy sounds and music. To top it all, they must also sit on a seat resembling a person’s backside.

Mike Foster acknowledges that the game’s cheeky humour – which was all Stuart Keane’s idea – might not be to everyone’s taste, and so it is supplied as standard with a choice of alternative theme. “It’s two games for the price of one,” he highlights.

Elton Games also manufactures the successful standalone amusement games Beat the Clock, Race Time and Lucky Seven Bingo.
