Bitter victory for Paultons
Paultons Park in Hampshire, England, has been officially recognised as an amusement park after submitting planning application to change its status from a county park. However a separate, retrospective planning application for two rides has been turned down by the New Forest National Park Authority.
The Cobra, a Gerstlauer rollercoaster added in 2006 (pictured below), and The Edge, a Zamperla Disk ‘O’ Coaster introduced this spring, are the rides in question. Unfortunately they are also two of the park’s headline attractions.
Noise complaints from local residents and the fact the rides sit outside at the corner of the New Forest, outside the main park boundaries, are believed to have been deciding factors for the planning committee’s decision last month.
Paultons kept the rides open during the October school holidays but, “the directors are currently reviewing their options” as to their long term future. In he meantime, the park has secured planning permission for a 9,000 sq ft indoor play area.
