Named after Africa's deadliest snake, Black Mamba, an inverted five-loop rollercoaster, is lurking in the heart of the new Deep in Africa section of Phantasialand in Brühl, Germany. Attention to detail is evident in this installation and authentic imported artefacts help bring the history and traditions of the continent to life.
Only the bravest are catapulted through a labyrinth of loops and twists with their legs dangling beneath them as they go upside down through plunging ravines, down gaping chasms, through raging waterfalls and over ancient forests and plains – all at breakneck speeds.
Black Mamba is 91ft high and hurtles riders through five inversions over its 2,520ft layout. The ride begins with a twisting drop, where riders reach a speed of up to 47 mph.The thrill elements that follow include an outside vertical loop, a zero-G roll, an inclined Immelman curve, two outside flat spins, and two outside high speed spirals. Most of these elements are among the tightest ever designed by B&M.
Because of the park’s desire to offer visitors a breathless ride, a large number of elements were shoehorned into a very tight space. More than half the ride is below ground level and tunnels often obscure riders’ peripheral vision and alter their perception of speed.
