There’s a lot crammed into this issue, as I found out to my cost putting it together! But that’s ok, we like to spoil you around this time of year, ahead of the industry’s biggest annual get-together: IAAPA Attractions Expo, in Atlanta.
As many of you will now have closed your park for the season, you might also have a bit more time to read it. Some of you will have already have received this or the last issue of Park World electronically in your ‘inbox’, as well as in printed form though your letterbox. This new digitised format is not simply a website. It allows amusement industry professionals like you to read the magazine via your web browser, and ‘turn’ the pages just as you would if the real thing was in your hand. You can also zoom in or out on the page, search text and, in some cases, interact with advertisements.
We’ve made Park World available in this way not just because the technology is available, but because we recognise the lifestyles and working patterns of our readers. Many folk in this business spend a lot of time travelling, as we all will be doing when we visit IAAPA, and you shouldn’t have to wait until you’re back at the office to catch up on the latest issue. Better still, the electronic version will be published ahead of the printed version and we’ll cut down on delivery times. That’s great news for our readers in the US and emerging far flung markets in Asia, where shipping can sometimes hold the magazine up by another week or so.
However, do not worry if you don’t like your Park World digital, we will still be printing the magazine as usual for the foreseeable future. When you fancy a leisurely read of a park profile, interview or show report over coffee, I reckon the ‘touchy-feely’ version still takes some beating. But when you need to read something quick for reference, then it’s often easier on your computer screen (watch out also for the long overdue return of a dedicated Park World website soon).
If you’re not yet getting the digital edition by the way, then send an e-mail to: parkworld@datateam.co.uk and we’ll put you on the list right away - for free. Just tell them Owen sent you.
