ScareCON 2010

WWA Middle East Symposium
As a precursor to the DEAL trade show, the World Waterpark Association (WWA), which held its latest Middle East Symposium in the Ras Al Khaimah suite of the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) on April 24 and 25. Owen Ralph reports.

IAAPA Attractions Expo
A change of venue, from Orlando to Las Vegas, created new excitement on the floor of IAAPA Attractions Expo 2009, the 91st annual convention and trade show of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). Paul Ruben and Owen Ralph report.
EAS Amsterdam
After the bizarre situation in 2008, when Euro Attractions Show took place twice, the event settled into its new fall (autumn) schedule as it appeared inside the Europa Hall of Amsterdam RAI exhibition centre from September 30 to October 2. Owen Ralph reports from IAAPA’s biggest and busiest yet exhibition for the European attractions industry.
TEA in Vienna
The Prater park in Vienna, Austria, formed the backdrop for a gathering of the TEA’s (Themed Entertainment Association) European members on June 18 and 19. This two-day get-together was, says Gerd Gügel, real value for money!
Asian Attractions Expo

DEAL 2009
DEAL (Dubai Entertainment, Amusement and Leisure), the Middle East’s premier exhibition for the theme park and amusement industry, took place recently in Dubai, with positive reports coming from a number of exhibitors.
IAAPA Attractions Expo
The weather was chilly but business was a little warmer on the floor of IAAPA Attractions Expo 2008 – despite a predictable drop in attendance. Owen Ralph and Paul Ruben report from the show floor.
Interschau-Technofolies
The organisers of Interschau-Technofolies have announced a new name for the exhibition following the latest event in Stuttgart, which attracted around 3,500 visitors. As from next year, when the show takes place in Genoa, Italy, the exhibition will be known as Amusement Expo Europe.
EAS Munich
It might have come only eight months after the last one, but the recent Euro Attractions Show (EAS) in Munich nevertheless attracted over 5,000 visitors to the Messe München exhibition centre – roughly the same amount that turned up at the start of the year for the same event in Nice, France. Owen Ralph reports.

This summer’s IAAPA Asian Attractions Expo in Macau (July 16 to 18) was the biggest ever in terms of exhibitor numbers and floor space, but was the attendance there to match?

Asia Tourism & Attractions Summit
After three years in Shanghai, the Avail Corporation took its attractions industry conference to Macau for the first time this summer, where it welcomed delegates at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on July 14 and 15.

Now in its fourth year, the one-day “Experience Conference” staged this summer by consultants Vision XS was another well-received event.
TEA Europe Meeting
Around 80 members of the TEA (Themed Entertainment Association) gathered at Disneyland Resort Paris for two days in June (Thursday 5/Friday 6) for the association’s second European members’ meeting.

RAAPA 2008
The 10th anniversary edition of the RAAPA Show, the annual exhibition from the Russian Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, took place within Pavilion 69 of Moscow’s All Russian Exhibition Centre from April 9 to 11.
Euro Attractions Show
It was nice to be in Nice. Once IAAPA announced it was to stage a second Euro Attractions Show (EAS) in Munich later in the year, some wondered if the planned January event on French Riveria would be worth bothering with at all. Happily, reports Owen Ralph, it wasn’t a waste of time.

Technofolies
According to organisers, the first Technolfolies event held in association with Interschau was a success, attracting approximately 4,000 visitors to the Fiera di Genova exhibition centre in Genoa, Italy, from October 25 To 27 – about 200 more than last year.

Attraction operators large and small from the UK and beyond travelled to the Oxford Centre in the English city of the same name for a one-day ”experience conference” on July 3. Park World joined them.
AALARA Conference
Over 700 delegates and trade exhibitors enjoyed three hard but fun days of education and networking at the AALARA Conference and Trade Exhibition in May. This, the 13th annual event from the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association took place as always at the Conrad Jupiters Hotel & Casino in Queensland.

RAAPA 2007
Now in its ninth year, the RAAPA Show in Moscow continues as one of Europe's most successful industry trade shows, recording a 7% attendance leap to around 6,500 visitors over the three days (April 12 to 14). Gerry Robinson reports.
IAAPI Trade Show 2007
The Indian Association of Amusement Parks & Industries – IAAPI – staged its 7th annual Trade Show from back in February at a new venue, the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai.
Euro Attractions Show 2007
After last year’s event in Vienna, when visitor numbers plummeted more than 40 per cent, the 2007 Euro Attractions Show in Seville had to be good. It was certainly busy, attracting a record 7,400-plus guests according to preliminary figures released by co-organiser IAAPA. But were they the right visitors? Owen Ralph reports from the Fibes Conference and Exhibition Centre.

If it only rains one day per week, that’s considered a good week for business at an amusement park. It’s also good for a trade show. That’s what the weather was like from November 13 to 18 in Atlanta when the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) held its annual Attractions Expo, its 88th convention and trade show. WWA does Disney
Water leisure and development professionals gathered for the 26th Annual Symposium and Trade Show of the World Waterpark Association (WWA) from October 18 to 22 at the Coronado Springs Resort in Walt Disney World, Florida. A rich education programme plus access to world-class suppliers and industry experts attracted 1,949 registrants – a whopping 22 per cent rise from last year. Paul Ruben reports.
Technofolies 2006
Last year it was all about making a statement, this year it had to prove its worth as a viable trade show. The second edition of Technofolies, the Italian exhibition supported by many of the region’s ride manufacturers, returned to the Fiera di Genova exhibition centre in Genoa from October 26 to 28. Visitor numbers were up by over eight per cent (3,800 Vs 3,500), but what was the show like inside? Owen Ralph reports.
