Since the founding by Werner Stengel of Stengel Engineering on March 28, 1965, the Munich-based company has designed and/or done the calculations for 500 rollercoasters. That’s a lot of coasters. The firm’s 500th coaster is Maverick, which will open next spring at Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio, manufactured by Intamin.

Cedar Point is also the home to one of the first Stengel rides, designed alongside the late Anton Schwarzkopf, the Wildcat.

Stengel’s collection of rollercoasters ranges from junior coasters to the largest coasters in operation today, and include all styles including inverted, suspended, stand-up and flying coasters. Besides its 500 coasters, Stengel Engineering’s portfolio also includes more than 500 carousel/round rides and other products for the amusement business.

The company has been responsible for such innovations as the modern loop, heart-line roll, space-curve design and prefabricated wooden coaster track, all of which allow for the construction of rides that are very smooth even at high speeds. Prost!
