Brazilian park creator dies

Beto Carrero, who built Latin America's biggest amusement park, passed away Friday, February 1, while undergoing heart surgery. The 70-year-old park creator, whose given name was Joao Batista Sergio Murad, died of heart problems at Sao Paulo's Sirio Libanes Hospital.

Beto Carrero World, which comprises a huge amusement park and a zoo with 700 animals, opened in 1991. It covers almost 3,500 acres in the southern state of Santa Catarina.
Murad worked as a country musician, radio announcer and advertising salesman before starting an agency of his own and, eventually, his theme park. He is survived by two sons will be buried in the city of Penha where his park is located.
