El Toro tears into town!
El Toro is an enormous new wooden rollercoaster by Intamin at Six Flags Great Adventure. At 188ft tall and reaching speeds of 70mph, it is among the tallest and fastest wooden coasters in the world.
Its 4,400ft of mountainous track includes records for the second tallest, fastest, and longest drop of all wooden coasters in America and it also features the world's steepest drop on a woodie, 76 degrees. It is located in a newly themed area of the park, Plaza del Carnaval.
Employing glue laminated wood coaster track pioneered by rollercoaster guru Werner Stengel, El Toro is a hybrid design including a classic out-and-back track with four fast-charging drops, multiple highly banked turns and a twister finale. The ride also delivers nine seat-lifters, giving riders the thrill ride sensation of weightlessness.
“Thanks to its modern take on classic wood design and its incredibly smooth ride, it caters to coaster lovers of all ages, both thrill seekers and families,” believes Kelly Laferriere, Six Flags regional vice-president of park strategy and management. “We're diversifying the entertainment at Six Flags and El Toro is a major component of that strategy.”
