Starliner rides again!

Florida's original rollercoaster was due to reopen on June 30.

The Starliner, originally built in 1963 at Panama City Beach (pictured here), is now part of Cypress Gardens Adventure Park, Winter Haven, after being rescued when the Miracle Strip Amusement Park closed in 2004.

The historic ride was created by designer John Allen of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. Cypress Gardens has stayed true to the original design with few profile modifications. The Starliner starts with a 70ft first hill, plummeting riders 67ft, then it skims a series of bunny hills and camel backs. One modification was the turn-around, which was banked to a higher degree and given a sharper turn to provide a diving hairpin turn.
