Bobbejaanlands adds SFX Theater

Bobbejaanland, Lichtaart, Belgium, has transformed its old live music theatre into a 4D cinema.

The space, which used to host daily performances by Belgian country music legend and former park owner Bobbejaan Schoepen, has been kitted out by Kraftwerk/3DBA.

It is the first 3D/4D theatre from the two companies to feature in-theatre rather than in-seat effects. Included are wind, rain and two types of fog, plus a very special effect to accompany the film Haunted House – spiders falling from the roof! The effects, which work out cheaper than the in-seat equivalent, can also be changed to suit the film being shown.

The 274-seat theatre has been equipped with strobe and goebel lights, a five zone high end audio system and a movable screen so that the stage behind it can still be used for musical performances.

“There are already two 4D cinemas in Belgium,” notes Bobbejaanland general manager Rudi Rasschert, “so we wanted to do something different. It’s been a big hit with our guests since introduced in May.”

3DBA is marketing the new system as the SFX Theater.
