That’ll be Your Day
Preparations are well on their way at Alton Towers in England to introduce a video system that will track guests through the park and record their day as a souvenir DVD.
Your Day Video Technology has begun to install a 6,000 metre fibre optic network throughout the park in readiness for the Your Day in the Park product that will be offered to all visitors next season. Guests will be identified by wearing RFID (radio frequency identification) wristbands and filmed on a variety of attractions. This footage will be cut with stock scenes from the park to complete the ‘Your Day’ offering. Filming began last month of that stock footage, using a number of elaborate techniques, including helicopter shots. “This is a natural evolution of still photography,” says Dominic Berger of Venue Solutions, a major shareholder in Your Day Video Technology. “With the onset of technology, however, the DVD footage need not be restricted to a TV and can also be viewed on a computer, online and shared with friends etc.”
A retail price for the DVDs has yet to be decided, but Berger is confident of their success: “If consumer interest proves as positive as our research indicates, it will be very profitable for operators.”
Venue Solutions is already in negotiation with several other venues about installing the Your Day in the Park system, which is protected by “a very strong patent” preventing other suppliers offering video footage in the same way.
