Diving machine for Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Busch Gardens Europe, in Williamsburg, Virginia, has announced a 2007 opening for its latest steel marvel, Griffon, the world’s only floorless dive coaster. Currently under construction, this Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) Diving Machine will debut late spring. Each floorless coaster car will consist of three, 10-person wide rows.
Griffon will drop riders 205ft at 90 degrees straight down, reaching a speed of more than 70 mph, and that’s just the beginning. Griffon will also incorporate two Immelman loops. Additionally, the dive coaster includes a second 130ft dive and a water feature with spectacular viewing platforms.
“With its adrenalin-pumping ver tical drops, high speed and mid-air pause, Griffon is certain to fulfil thrill seekers’ expectations,” reckons Donnie Mills, executive vice-president and general manager for Busch Gardens Europe. A B&M Diving Machine, with a floor, already operates at the recently renamed Busch Gardens Africa park in Tampa Bay, Florida, where it is known as SheiKra.
