Atlantis comes to San Antonio
SeaWorld in San Antonio, Texas, will add a new Journey to Atlantis water rollercoaster in 2007. Built by Mack Rides, it will be similar to a water ride operating at Mack’s own Europa-Park in Germany but will be the first of its kind in the North America.
This latest Journey to Atlantis experience will begin with 16 passengers boarding boats. Travelling uphill, the boats rotate 360 degrees on a turntable when they reach the first plateau. Riders will able to see both San Antonio and SeaWorld from atop this 100ft-high viewpoint. The boats will then be propelled backwards down a reverse camelback.
At the crest of the second hill, the boats rotate again before plunging down the final hill and splashing into a lake and through geysers and water spouts. The ride lasts three-and-a-half minutes.
The project is being managed in-house by SeaWorld’s creative development department, headed by vice-president Kathleen Mundy.
