Riders on the new simulator lean forward for an increased illusion of flight

Explore 5D, KumbaK Coasters and Bosch-Rexroth have teamed to further develop the Flyboard 5D new generation motion-base simulator.

The attraction, originally featured in the October 2006 issue of Park World, enables guests to ‘stand’ leaning forward in ergonomically-designed supports for the duration of the ride. At the same time they are subjected to roll angles of plus and minus 15 degrees and pitch angles of up to 36 degrees. The first unit opened this summer at Blue Dome, a visitor’s centre in Salzburg, Austria.

Now Explore 5D, KumbaK and Bosch-Rexroth, which supplied the motion base, plan to add new features including 4D effects, and an order has been secured for another visitor centre in Europe.

The innovative approach by Explore 5D of combining live footage with animation has enabled the product to include custom designed movies at an affordable price. The team is already in discussions for applications in the amusement industry.
