Blackpool adds SLC coaster

It’s official: Leading UK park Blackpool Pleasure Beach is to open a Suspended Looping Coaster (SLC) as its major new attraction for 2007.

The Vekoma-built ride (pictured) features 2,200ft of twisting steel track and comprises five loops and rolls.

The ride formerly operated at Pleasureland in Southport as Traumatizer, but gets a fresh lease of life and a new colour scheme at Blackpool as ‘Infusion.’ Built in space vacated by the removal of the park’s log flume, it will ‘fuse’ thrills with added water effects.

“I know the six million visitors a year who enjoy our unique mix of cutting edge technology and traditional rides will love this attraction,” says Pleasure Beach managing director Amanda Thompson.

A further £1 million (€1.4m) is being spent on makeovers at Pleasure Beach in 2007, including work on the Casino Building at the front of the park, which is being restored to its Art Deco glory.

The season starts February 10 with six discount ‘Wow Weekends’ through until Easter.

Meanwhile the park’s Spin Doctor twin Booster rides from Fabbri have been sold to showman Peter Sedgwick and will operate across the road from Pleasure Beach on Blackpool’s South Pier.
