Severn-Lamb projects on track
People-moving specialist Severn-Lamb UK is currently working on a number of train projects – both on and off tracks. A Texan rail train, for example, is being built for a new park in China. The diesel hydraulic engine will run on 24” gauge track and pull four coaches, each seating 21 passengers. A custom colour scheme has been chosen by the client, Forest Park.
This 4-hectate environmental park planned for Yinchuan, Ningxia, is due to open early 2007 and will be joined by a shopping centre, entertainment district, hotel and office complex and, in common with many Chinese entertainment developments, a large residential component.
The park features a series of artificial mountains, waterfalls and themed gardens and is encircled by a man-made river, which the train track traverses several times. In fact, the train transports guests through some diverse and breathtaking scenery, passing the water’s edge, climbing through a forest and crossing the river on a steel bridge, flanked by huge waterfalls.
Three train stations are included at present. Once the shopping centre is completed alongside Forest Park, expected to be in 2008, the train will travel deep inside the centre, before being flipped round on a turntable and sent back towards the park.
Meanwhile in America, Severn-Lamb recently created a sit-on replica E-10 electric train for the Indiana State Museum’s Christmas display. Running on 10” gauge track, the ride replaces a previous train that was to small to accommodate the increasingly fat children that visit the museum.
In Guatemala, a land train was due to be shipped in December, to IRTRA, comprising one locomotive, two open coaches and a wheelchair accessible coach. The train is finished in green, black and gold.
Severn-Lamb recently introduced a range of attractive signals and signs as accessories for operators of its rail trains. Customers have been buying them in multiple quantities thanks to their low cost.
